An Early Trip to Labor & Delivery

I may add an unwanted one! Friday afternoon at work I wasn't feeling quite right. My co-worker commented on my flushed face. Not long after I had a nose bleed and a jump in blood pressure (one good thing about working with other nurses for sure!). I called my doctor and was told since I was feeling badly I needing to be taken to labor and delivery. I was told not to drive there. So Dennis came and fetched me from work. We got checked in and in a room by 4 and didn't leave until after 10 that evening.
The blood pressure turned out to be a non-issue. However, once on the monitors they discovered I was contracting every 3 minutes. I thought they were just the fake ones (known as Braxton Hicks). I was wrong. I was given IV fluids but they did not slow. I was then given Terbutaline injections twice. The medication is awful! I felt like my heart was going to jump out of my chest. Though the contractions didn't stop, they slowed down enough and were small enough (not so intense). I was able to go home. Luckily the baby was fine through all of this. We are just hoping she stays put a little longer and continues to bake. I don't think we will make it to March 11th, but if we can at least hold off until she is 35 weeks I will be happy.
The contractions have continued over the weekend. Some are not that bad and others kind of stop me in my tracks. The doctor had no clue what was causing the contractions either. I head back to my OB this Friday (it may be sooner). I am hoping for at least a stable report!
Our last two weeks have been anything but uneventful. With Landon's seizures and my early labor issues, it has been quite something.
On a side note, Landon is doing much better. He is over his illness. No more fever. No more seizures. We are just hoping it will be a while if never that he has another seizure!
Hang on baby Lou, you need to bake a little bit longer!

Please keep our son in your thoughts and prayers...

We have had an eventful week, but not one we want to re-live any time soon (or ever really). We got a call on Tuesday from daycare that Landon had a fever. I thought, no big deal, take him to the doctor and figure out the cause and all would be fine. Not so much. We go to the doctor and they tell us he has the beginnings of bronchitis and to treat with antibiotics and motrin. On our way we went to get the medicine.
We were over half way home when we noticed Landon got really quiet. Then we noticed a strange noise. We look back at him and he is having a seizure. We pull over, call 911, and are taken via ambulance to the hospital for evaluation. Landon had a seizure when he was 1 1/2 that was due to high fever. This seizure was similar to the first one. Upon arrival to the hospital we found out Landon's temperature was 104. We aren't sure how high it was when he had the seizure. Febrile seizures are not caused by how high the fever but how quickly it rises or even falls. It was just such a shock to know it was 104 in the ER.
Needless to say we have been watching him closely. Because he has now had 2 seizures he is more prone to getting another one when he has fever. This news is very unsettling.
This is the part that I am not so happy I am a nurse. Knowing too much is as bad as knowing nothing. We go back to the doctor this afternoon for a check-up and to see if anything else needs to be (neurologist visit, etc). Not to scare any of you moms out there, but I just wanted to ask for your thoughts/prayers during this time.

Nursery Progress

We started working on the nursery today. We have been doing some little by little. But today we began the major preparations. We moved Landon out of the nursery the weekend after Christmas. He now has the whole upstairs to himself. So far, so good. He loves his new big boy room and his new sea life bathroom.
The nursery needs to be repainted, so today we wiped down all the walls, and removed nails. Tomorrow Dennis will patch holes. Next weekend while I enjoy a much needed prenatal massage and day at the spa, Dennis and my dad will paint the room.
I changed out the hardware on the dresser and armoire today. It made a huge difference in the pieces of furniture.
The bedding should be here any day now. I think the nursery will be very fun and girly for Lou. I picked out bedding in black, white, and hot pink. It is a french damask print that goes perfect with my theme of boutique style. The mobiles above the crib and the changing table are purses and high-heel shoes. I can't wait to see the finished results!
Now for a little rest before my Birthday dinner. We are going out, just me and Dennis for hopefully a quiet dinner. I am now 30 weeks along and it is catching up with me!

Why??????

It has begun, Landon has started asking us "why". Oh gosh, I am really unsure if I ready for this stage. They grow up so fast. Today we finally completed Christmas decorations (we have been so busy, we got so behind!). While decorating today it was why this and why that. I am just waiting for the hard questions. Like where do babies come from?

It will be a whirlwind week for us at home and at work. Unfortunately, cancer doesn't take a holiday break. We have been busy bringing in new patients at St. Jude. My heart goes out to the patients and the families. I really hope they can have some peace this Christmas and some joy even through their illness. I thank God for our health as working where I do makes you appreciate the very simple things in life, like going out for a walk without a mask on your face or my son playing with his friends without too much worry of it crashing his immune system.

We are excited to share this Christmas with Landon as he finally realizes who Santa is and what he will bringing him on Christmas morning. He has been singing songs, making reindeer food, and other crafts at daycare.

We hope everyone has a safe, happy, and healthy holiday. Now on to Landon asking us why he can't touch the candles! Once it starts it never ends!

Landon's First Dates

Yes, you read right, I said dates. As in, Landon had three dates last Saturday night to my Christmas party for St. Jude. All three of them much older than his 3 years, but that's ok. Landon even brought each one of them flowers and dressed up for the evening. Meghan (my office mate), Samantha (a co-worker), and Dori (a nurse in the clinic) all were very surprised with their flowers. Landon tried to give the flowers to alot of different people when we first arrived at the party. It was very crowded and an little overwhelming for me and Landon.

When he finally calmed down, he began eating dessert first. He had chocolate all over his mouth. He didn't mind his table manners too well in front of his dates, but they still thought he was adorable anyways.

I think that Landon will do ok in the real dating world much later in life. But it was fun to see him interact and get excited for the party and his dates. He talked about the party all day that day. We were exhausted once home but it was well worth getting dressed up and being around the people I "live" with during the work week!

Past the half-way point....

Happy Thanksgiving to all! We are busy, busy getting the house re-arranged and preparing for the holiday season. I have been making lists and checking them more than twice because pregnancy gives you amnesia.

We enjoyed halloween by going to the Memphis zoo for Zoo Boo. Landon loved it. Landon has started counting on his fingers and can tell us how old he is while holding up 3 fingers and then tells us he wants 5 chicken nuggets while holding up his 5 fingers. He is moving up to the 3 year old class room on December 1st, which is yet another milestone for him. He has been waiting to go to that class for a while now but there were too few teachers and too many kids. We are very excited. However, his teachers he is leaving behind are a little sad about the move.

Our last check-up went well. Lou and me are doing well. My blood pressure was good, her heartbeat was good, and she is growing as expected. I think I am growing too much, but the doctor said it's ok. I am now 24 weeks and past the half-way mark. 6 months pregnant and counting. All Lou does is kick me! And these are not loving kicks but more of a resounding reminder she is in there! Oh well, I am hoping she calms down a bit when she arrives. Otherwise, we are going to have our hands full!

I can't wait to enjoy some good food and spend time with family this weekend. We hope everyone else has a wonderful holiday as well!
